“Your passion – the thing you think about in the watches of the night or when you have nothing else to think about—will define you. “

NATIONAL DUDLEY ON WHAT DEFINES YOU
Idol is kind of an old fashioned word. Throughout history, whether a golden calf or land or a singing competition, mankind’s default position is toward an idol. I heard Jim Reese, the CEO of the Atlanta Mission, at a Lifework Leadership event and he’s right. I probably editorialized the middle part a bit, but do you know how to tell what your idol is?
1. It’s what you think about when you have nothing to think about, late at night just before you go to sleep.
2. It’s what you think about when you walk into a room and feel less than everyone there or when something/someone makes you feel insignificant.
3. It’s what you think about when something/someone attacks your security—space, 401(k) or children.
That very next thing you think about is your idol. For me, it’s time. That may seem like a funny one, but I get angry and impatient when I’m out of time. Everyone’s got at least one and most have a shelf full. And as Jim so wisely pointed out, it will define you.
What are your thoughts on this?
